Frailty, Profile Likelihood and (Medfly) Mortality

چکیده
Unobserved heterogeneity is an increasingly common feature of statistical survival analysis where it is often referred to as frailty. Parametric mixture models are frequently used to capture these effects, but it is sometimes desirable to consider nonparametric mixture models as well. We illustrate the latter approach with a reanalysis of the well-known large scale medfly mortality study of Carey, Liedo, Orozco, and Vaupel (1992). Recent developments in convex optimization are exploited to expand the applicability of the Kiefer-Wolfowitz nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator for mixture models. Some ensuing problems of profile likelihood are also addressed. 1.

A Profile Likelihood Theory for the Correlated Gamma-frailty Model with Current Status Family Data
A profile likelihood inference is made for the regression coefficient and frailty parameters in the correlated gamma-frailty model for current status family data. With the introduction of an identifiability assumption, the identifiability of the parameters and the existence of the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimate (NPMLE) are established, the consistency and convergence rate of the NPML...
متن کاملUsing of frailty model baseline proportional hazard rate in Real Data Analysis
Many populations encountered in survival analysis are often not homogeneous. Individuals are flexible in their susceptibility to causes of death, response to treatment and influence of various risk factors. Ignoring this heterogeneity can result in misleading conclusions. To deal with these problems, the proportional hazard frailty model was introduced. In this paper, the frailty model is ex...
متن کاملFrailty, HIV Infection, and Mortality in an Aging Cohort of Injection Drug Users
BACKGROUND Frailty is associated with morbidity and premature mortality among elderly HIV-uninfected adults, but the determinants and consequences of frailty in HIV-infected populations remain unclear. We evaluated the correlates of frailty, and the impact of frailty on mortality in a cohort of aging injection drug users (IDUs). METHODS Frailty was assessed using standard criteria among HIV-i...

inflated at the tail of the survivorship distribution, but whether the Gompertz model fits actual observations better than alternative models of mortality. We found that a two-stage Gompertz model, with almost no increase in mortality rate at older ages, fits the observed data significantly better than a simple single-stage Gompertz model (2). Model fits were obtained by maximum likelihood meth...
متن کاملFrailty Screening Tools: Frail Detection to Primary Assessment
Frailty is a vulnerable situation among older adults which can lead to unfavorable health outcomes such as falls, mortality, functional decline and institutionalization. The increasing number of elderly people and low rate of mortality has necessitated the need for high-quality medical services for this aging population, and this has led to a high cost of geriatric health care. There exist a hu...
